As November comes to a close, we are excited to share the highlights of a month filled with kindness, culture, learning, and community connection here at Southampton Intermediate School. This month’s SEL theme focused on Kindness, and our students and staff rose to the occasion in countless ways.
SEL Theme of the Month: Kindness
Throughout November, the word kindness was front and center in our classrooms, hallways, and school events. Teachers incorporated kindness-focused discussions and activities into daily lessons. Students also took part in schoolwide opportunities to show kindness to one another and to the community.
Schoolwide Food Drive Competition
A big thank you to our Builders Club for sponsoring this year’s schoolwide food drive!
Grade levels competed to bring in the most non-perishable items, and our students did not disappoint. Their generosity helped stock our local food pantry, Heart of the Hamptons and support families in need during the holiday season. A huge shout out to this year's food drive winners: The 8th Grade!
Rotary Club Acts of Kindness
This month, to keep the spirit of kindness alive, our Rotary Club students helped pack hundreds of food boxes that will be distributed to families in our community.
Native American Heritage Month Celebrations
November was also Native American History Month, and our school honored and celebrated local Indigenous culture through meaningful events and educational experiences.
Shinnecock Documentary Screening
Our students visited the Southampton Playhouse to watch “1000 a Witness,” a powerful documentary highlighting Shinnecock history and culture. After the screening, Reverend Mike Smith and Marguerite Smith, members of the Shinnecock Nation, led a Q&A session where students learned directly from their lived experiences and perspectives.
Mini Pow Wow at the High School
Students also attended a mini pow wow held at the high school and led by high school students. This joint assembly brought both schools together to celebrate Shinnecock traditions, culture, and community.
School Play: The Wizard of Oz
This month, our school proudly presented four performances of The Wizard of Oz over a three-day span!
A huge shout-out to Ms. Gentile, Mr. Benaburger and Ms. Guerin. Their dedication, creativity, and leadership helped bring this magical show to life. Congratulations to our hardworking student performers and stage crew for putting on an unforgettable production. Well done!

This month, we proudly recognize students who stood out for their kindness, leadership, and willingness to be role models for their peers.
